Who We Are
Our Story
Developing Room Films was founded in September 2025 as the production arm of The Developing Room, building upon years of supporting independent filmmakers through one of the UK's fastest-growing creative communities.
Our first slate of three short films established the company's commitment to ambitious, character-driven storytelling. Bringing together award-winning producers, directors, actors, and creative partners from across the UK, US, and Europe, the slate featured collaborations with Emmy Award-winning Karina Michel (Tallulah Films), BAFTA-winning Tobi Kyeremateng (Them Ones), actors Kulvinder Ghir, Melissa Knatchbull, and Amarah-Jae St. Aubyn, alongside directors Raphaela Wagner, Keshav Shree, and Jeremiah Towolawi.
Before entering production, the slate had already attracted significant industry recognition. To Catch A Siren won the Grand Prize in the Shore Scripts 2024 Spring Short Film Fund and received support from Hessen Film & Medien, Verein Südkultur, and the Cine Circle Film Fund. The Truth About Space was awarded the Shore Scripts 2025 Spring Short Film Finishing Fund, following earlier backing from The Uncertain Kingdom Belief Grant and the Cine Circle Film Fund.
Following their 2026 festival premieres, the films continue to screen internationally while Developing Room Films expands its slate of original projects. Alongside new short films, the company is actively developing a portfolio of long-form projects, committed to creating distinctive British stories with global appeal.
Most recently, the feature film How to Catch a Mermaid — developed from the award-winning short To Catch A Siren — was selected for the prestigious Torino Film Lab Next Feature Film 2026 programme, marking the next chapter in the company's growth as a home for bold, original storytelling.
