One Sunday in 2017 when I was on my way to church I witnessed the chaotic aftermath of a car ploughing into a group of people near my house. The young Black driver looked like he had just come back from a party. I witnessed him being chased down the road by one of the victims before the police came and arrested him. Tragically one of the victims died a few days later in hospital. I couldn’t tell you much about what was ministered by my pastor that morning at church because all I was thinking about was the accident. I followed the case, looking for my own concrete answers but never found out the identity of the man, all I knew for sure was that he would be living with what he did in prison. And then I asked myself what would it be like for him when he comes out and how would he cope with owning what he did in the outside world?

The Truth About Space explores the concept of the 'unforgivable mistake' through the perspective of a child, who typically embodies the most forgiving of natures. This film sets itself apart by blending the imaginative and seemingly unattainable aspects of science fiction, with another layer of a childlike fantastical lens, alongside the harsh realities and confinements faced by recently freed prisoners.

 

Ife and Obi, both marked by their time apart, are on a path where the only obstacle left is the revelation of truth.
